Schools worldwide this year joined together to take part in inspiring and educational activities for the 1GOAL: Education for All Campaign.

On the 20th April 2010, over 15 million school children from over 100 nations around the world took part in the 1GOAL Global Action Week, which was a world record attempt backed by some of the world’s biggest names in football who had come out to support what promises to be footballs biggest ever campaign.

In Australia, we saw two notable lessons, the first taking place at South Granville High School in Sydney’s western suburbs which was attended by ex-Socceroo Francis Awaritefe, TV personality Stephanie Brantz and Federal MP Laurie Ferguson. Together the trio helped teachers from South Granville teach the students about the 1GOAL campaign and why it is so important that our world leaders do more to help the 72 million children worldwide who still don’t have access to basic education.

At Melbournes - Essedon Keilor High school, a similar event was held with the assistance of another ex-Socceroo - John Aloisi, as he talked to the students about his experiences with school and his thoughts on the campaign.

If you missed out on the class in 2010, do not worry because there are plans underway for a Class of 2011 Global Action Week which will focus upon ‘story telling’.

We’d love for schools and local community groups to participate in next years actions by:

Identifying good story tellers so they can tell a story about their lives or read out a story from a good female role model, which is the other focus of the Class of 2011.

The main concept for 2011 is for countries to compile national stories from a range of individuals including influential women, girls in education and those who are missing out. We will also be providing some global stories from some influential women and education advocates for you to use. We will translate the global stories into different languages and you will have the opportunity to use these and of course collect stories from other story tellers worldwide.

In early 2011 you can expect a feature packed resource pack to be compiled, and if you would like to register your interest in the meantime, please email Jon Edwards, the current 1Goal Campaign Co-Ordinator for more information.

What world do you want by 2015? World leaders are gathering in New York at UN Millennium Development Goals summit next year to discuss Education for All.

Imagine you could tell all the world leaders what you wanted them do about education by 2015. What would you say?

Nthabiseng Tshabalala, a 1GOAL supporter from South Africa, will be speaking to world leaders at a high-level panel event.

We want you to tell her your education vision for 2015 so she can present not only her voice but the voices of people from all around the world calling for Education for All to the world leaders at what we hope will be a momentous summit.

Help us choose our future
